St. Mary & St. Merkorious Coptic Orthodox Church

The Friday Night Fellowship Meeting aims to unite the churches' youth together as One Body in the Love of Christ. This meeting is aimed at youth who has finished year 12 and above.

This meeting runs every Friday night at 8:30pm SHARP. Every week there is prayer, hymns (with live music delivered by The Sherubs) and a talk/discussion. The meeting is held in St. Abu Sefein's church (downstairs). There are regular outings and at present, all youth are involved in an initiative called Project Aroma which aims to unite youth and the children of the church together through various activities and events. This meeting has been running at our church for more than 15 years. It is conducted every Friday from 8pm and is held in St. Mary's church (upstairs).

The evening consists of prayers, hymns, a talk and a bible study contemplation. All are welcome to join.

The Pre-servants Course aims to train youth and adults alike who have completed school or/and who are interested in becoming servants of Sunday School and involved with other services throughout the church. Pre-servants Meetings take place every Saturday evening from 6pm to 7pm and are held in the Sunday School Building.

The meeting consists of prayer and a discussion that will assist those who feel a desire to serve. Anyone interested in participating in the pre-servants meetings should contact the church Fathers for more details.

Sunday School aims to teach school aged children the foundations of a Christian life. Sunday School is split into two sections: Primary School (Years KG-6) and High School (Years 7-12)

Sunday School begins 15 minutes after the English Liturgy ends on Sunday mornings and consists of prayer, hymns and a lesson (split accordingly by year group). Primary School is held in the Sunday School Hall and High School meets in St. Abu Sefein's church (downstairs), after the Liturgy. All children are encouraged to attend.

The Purpose of This Ministry

By the grace of God and under the spiritual guidance of our church Fathers, the Young Professionals' Youth Ministry seeks to serve the senior Coptic youth in the true Spirit of Christ. It is our prayer to impart to our youth "the width and length and depth and height" of Christ's love, to awaken in each the immensity of Christ's sacrifice and to bring each person into the loving arms of the Father, "to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem" [Eph.3:18, Heb.12:22]

The Running of This Ministry

We meet every week (without exception)! Here are the details:

When: Sunday Nights, commencing 6:30PM
Where: In the Church of St Merkorious, Abu Sefein (downstairs)
Topics/ Speakers: We come together to share the living scripture in the form of a Bible Study, led by a speaker. (However, on the first Sunday of every month, the meeting coincides with the general COYA youth meeting commencing at 8:00PM, and also held at our church.) Previously, the Book of Revelation was studied and currently we are reading through Song of Songs.
Who attends: Although we seek to cater for the senior youth (24yo +), ALL are welcome!
